Credit Counseling & Financial Management Certificates

As part of your bankruptcy case you are required to complete two certificates, a pre-filing credit counseling certificate and a post-filing financial management certificate (items #2 on our checklist).

The pre-filing credit counseling certificate is basically to do a pre-assessment of your need for bankruptcy.  It can take from 45 minutes or more to go through the questions on the credit counseling website.

It is your responsibility to pay for the courses.  The pre-filing certificate is good for six-months, so you can get it out of the way early.

After filing, you can return to the website certification company you choose and complete the post-filing financial management course.  You will need your case number which will be provided to you about a week after filing via email with your hearing information and a copy of your filed petition. We require you to complete the second certification prior to your trustee hearing, which is generally held about a month after filing.  Here are the links and our firm codes for each company.
